GAD 210 & 211

Both squares this weekend were made from random picks from the Yarn / Wool basket.

I have had a very busy weekend this weekend so I apologise for the lack of enthusiasm on this post.

I started work (part time) at the Co Op today so that will explain my demeanor a little more thoroughly I hope!

I have an 8 hour shift tomorrow so who knows what GAD 212 will be like.

I got an AWARD !!

Thanks to Gwen over at Crochet Capers for this lovely award.

It also touched me when she said

I got back into crochet through Ali here.  I in turn got my friend in California 'hooked' on crochet, and she   encouraged her friend to take up her hook again.

Isn't that sweet!

Now I have to tell you 7 things about me:

1.  My first name isn't Ali
2.  I am a crochet addict
3.  I have recently moved to Dorset and love living in the Rural part of the Countryside
4.  I own an AGA (hooray) which I love
5.  I now have a fish pond with 8 fish in it (how did that happen) There is Cartier & Tiffany, Fish & Chips, Bah & Humbug plus Chilli & Pepper
6. My Dog is a (nearly) 14 year old Cocker Spaniel called Scooby Doo and he's go the Mobile Grooming Van arriving next week (he's deaf so we can't tell him hehehe)
7. My Husband & I got married on the day we met but 6 years later (anniversary coming up soon)

Now I have to nominate some Crochet Blogs so that this award can be passed on
& here they are.....

&

These two lovely ladies write very inspiring Crochet Blogs

I would also like to nominate Gwen who gave me this award - is she allowed to have two??

GAD 209 - Olympic Special

Well what can I say about making a commemorative Granny Square for today
The first day of the
London Olympics 2012

So this is what I made - a White Granny Square
Which is obviously the background colour of the Olympic Flag

As you can see in the image above
All you have to do is imagine a flag
And Hey Presto
You have it!

LoL
Not really folks
You know me better than that don't you?

So here is my REAL
GAD 209

To commemorate the Olympic Games 2012 LONDON - UK

GAD 208

Today's GAD is a "Grab Two Colours" from the scrap wool basket

And this is what happened

A Peachy Centre with a Creamy Frame

Peaches & Cream!

The Olympics 2012 start tomorrow - I wonder what I can make in a GAD for that?

Granny A Day 207 - Pond & Weeds

I have had a disaster with my inherited pond this week.
It turns out that the "pump/filter" that I thought we turns out to be purely an ornamental fountain feature thingy!
So £200 later, purchasing a pump and a filter which was ordered yesterday and arrived today but is still unfortunately not connected, I had to dedicate some of GAD 207 to the pond, hence the blue bit.

The rest of my day was spent weeding, weeding and more weeding which makes the two shades of green on the border make sense

So GAD is to commemorate Pond & Weeds

GAD 206

Another scorcher today

I had a Crochet lesson today

So I made GAD 206 whilst teaching colour changes on a Granny Square

What a perfect way to make a Granny Square for my GAD project

GAD 205 Flowers and Sunshine

Today was the most gorgeous day ever
Has Summer finally arrived?
I do hope so.

I spent the whole day in the garden, tidying up, scraping weeds from patio cracks, re arranging  things and making the patio our own

We even had our dinner - cold chicken with salad, tomatoes & beetroot, out there this evening!!

So here is my dedication to what I feel is the first day of Summer

Granny A Day 203 & 204 - Weekend Wonders!

Saturday's GAD are shades of Green & White

The my neighbour came along with this WONDERFUL bunch of flowers from her own garden for me

So I tried to reflect the beauty of these in GAD 204

And combined with GAD 203 I think I have picked out some of the colours portrayed in their blooms

Granny A Day 202

I thought I would share my yarn/wool oddments basket with you......

And this is it!

There are some "full" balls of yarn/wool in there, but nothing that I use for any WIPs at the moment

So here is GAD 202

Made from a random selection of  colours from my basket as it stands today

I would just like to take this moment to thank everyone who unanimously suggested the submission of the Lace Top for the Village Competition via twitter or comments on this blog.

Thank you all
The Lace Top it is, so be sure to return on the 4th August to see the results!

What piece do I submit? +GAD 201

We have a Village Flower & Produce show on the 4th August 2012 and they have a "Handicrafts" Category for which there are 2 classes

One is:  Any Small hand made article & the other is: My Hobby

Obviously I am going to submit some crochet pieces but the question is what to submit??

I have decided on my Elephant for the "Any Small Hand Made Article" as this shows lovely colour changes and a combination of Granny Squares & Double Crochet

But I can't decide on whether to submit my cardigan

Or my Lace Motif top

For the "My Hobby" entry

What do you think?

And now for GAD 201

Tah Dah!

Cream, Peach and Salmon Pink
& the reason for this Granny Square Colour scheme is.....

....No reason at all, I just fancied the colours!

200 Granny Squares!!

Yellow and Blue commemorates
GAD 200!!

I took a crochet class today with a really nice lady who has been teaching herself to crochet & she's done a really good job of it so far - she just needs a little bit of help with a few "tricks of the trade" to polish up what she already knows.

It was a joy to teach her & I loved every minute of it!

GAD 198 & 199

Granny A Day 198 - Monday 16th July 2012

Granny A Day 199 - Tuesday 17th July 2012

It rained so much yesterday - it was relentless.  Lucky for me my neighbour popped in for a coffee and we did some crochet together.

She was fun to teach as she already knew the terminology and the stitches, so I was just showing her a few
"tricks of the trade"

Here she is, starting on her Granny Square

She got so keen that I had to get my blanket out and show her how to

do the Join as you Go method!

So Granny A Day 198 is Sarah's square and
Granny A Day 199 is mine

It was a nice way to pass a few hours this morning, whilst the rain did nothing but that - rain!

Which means that I did a little cheat and that I don't have to crochet a GAD square today - which is good really as I have a house guest!

GAD 196 + 197 & more!

It's been such a busy weekend that I am surprised that I actually managed to complete GAD 196 & 197 at all, but here they are!

I am also organising a "Crochet Days" for my old Surrey Students in September, so that they can come to me in Dorset and have a full day and a half of Crochet Fun and tackle all those nitty gritty problems that may have arisen since their last crochet lesson.

This has prompted a couple of photo's to accompany their emails, of their recent masterpieces!

This is Johnson on his lovely blanket

And his is a "ripples" blanket that is a WIP from another student

And look at this wonderful jumper made by another ex student of mine!!

I must say that I am more than impressed by them all

Now for my other news.  My friends birthday is coming up soon and he works for Dorset County Council as a Ranger and is out in all weathers, so I thought that a nice cosy Beanie Hat in County Council colours would be just the ticket.

Here is my husband trying it on for size

& here is the finished hat

I put a white trim on it to break the monotony of the bottle green colour up

And put it on the head of a manikin to give it a good shape before the big day!

GAD 195 - Experimental Square

GAD 195 is an experimental square

It's pretty tame compared to squares of recent days, especially yesterdays one, but I have done it for a reason

And all will be revealed soon!

GAD 194 Olympic Torch Relay

I was lucky enough to see the Olympic Torch Relay in Blandford Forum today

So GAD 194 is dedicated to this historic moment in history, for me and for millions of others

I won't forget this momentous day

GAD 193 is SHOCKing !!

Yes GAD 193 is SHOCKing

Shocking colours that is!

The reason I chose a "Shocking" theme is due to the weather today

One minute is was dry, the next it was drizzle, the next torrential downpour, then thunder and to top it all off scorching sunshine!!

ARRRGGGHHHHHH

The weather is all over the place at the moment
Simply "shocking" !!

GAD 192

Today was a day of sunshine and showers

One minute the sun was so hot I was perspiring whilst doing a little weeding in the garden

And the next I was taking shelter in my conservatory from the showers and when I looked up to the skies above there were great big huge dark grey clouds

Hence today's GAD

Sunshine and Grey clouds

Granny A Day 191 + Someone is doing their homework!!

Look at this little lot!

Didn't she do fantastically well - all these Granny Squares and practice blocks

AHA took her homework very seriously since her last lesson on the 29th June!

As you can see from the Red & White Granny Square she made, I was inspired to make one of my own for GAD 191

I did try to steal the one AHA made, so that I could have a day off from GAD today, but that would have been really bad cheating wouldn't it?

Whilst we were sitting there, crocheting away together, I noticed all the different materials that our crochet hooks are made of.....

From Left to Right:

Glass, Aluminium, Bamboo, Foam with Metal, Plastic & Plastic (ok that's 2 plastic but they looked different at the time!!)

Pink Poncho Finished , GAD 189 & 190

Fit for a Princess!

Well a 6 year old Pink Mad Princess that is

Due to the weather and the fact that I can Crochet and watch TV at the same time, I managed to finish of the Poncho last night

I even added a "sparkling" border

To finish it off - it looks FAB

Hopefully the little Princess in question will let me take some pictures of her wearing it!

And here she is!!

Isn't she the cutest thing?

GAD 189 commemorates all the rain we have had in the last 48 hours, so much so that our river has burst its banks and caused all sorts of havoc for local farmers.

Fortunately we are high enough up not to have had a problem apart from the amazing scenes

And GAD 190 commemorates something not so nice

BLOOD!

My husbands Mother and her Boyfriend / Partner came to see our new house today.
Unfortunately he blacked out and went down & in the process hit his nose and there was blood everywhere

Fortunately he 100% ok now and we are all grateful for that!
So 190 is for Richard
