Day #19 Granny A Day plus WIP update

Granny A Day 19 has a vibrant red heart and a blue - navy blue frame
It reminds me that I must make a Red, White & Blue one to celebrate the Queens Jubilee this year

Here are all 19 squares joined together using the Join as you Go method (see Free Tutorials)

Now for my WIP

This is the baby blanket so far.
I have other 2 rows of:
Pink, Green, Yellow & Blue to go and it should be big enough to edge it

Another WIP is my Valentines hearts
I have been working on them for about a month now - writing up a pattern that works and that's easy to follow.

The pattern is being tested by a Twitter Friend at the moment
& as soon as it's ready I will make it available to you all
if there is enough interest.

Here are some Fuchsia ones

And some small plain ones

Day #7 Granny Square + Hook Sort out!

I know that I said in my Granny A Day  project

post, that I have ordered lots of lovely wool for my Granny a Day project &
I also blogged about all the lovely wools arriving on Day #5

Well I have changed my mind!  I am saving the above lovely lovely wools / yarns for a project to be yet decided on.  Maybe a Ripple Blanket or a multi colour Granny Square Blanket - I have yet to decide!

So, after my Yarn & Wool Stash sort out, it's most sensible to use my bit's and  bobs
to make my Granny A Day Granny Squares as I am only making them 4 rows wide, so it makes sense.

Today, day 7, I dipped my hand into the basket and out came 4 colours

Which I crocheted together to make Granny Square 7

And here's all 7 joined together - I love the Join as you Go method

Now for my Hook Sort Out.
As you may have already read, I organised my yarn/wool stash yesterday, so today I sorted out my hooks

These are my 2 Favourites - I got them for subscribing to Inside Crochet Magazine

Thanks to the Ravelry Website

I now have a full inventory of all my hooks

Total 22 that are accounted for below and 2 that have no markings on so
24 in total

 All my hooks?

Actually - no
I also have
9 plastic 4mm hooks
&
20 Aluminium 4mm hooks

These I take to group classes with me in case someone hasn't committed to Crochet as yet (but I know they will) so they can borrow a  hook - I don't always get them back mind you.

How many hooks do you have?

Scroll up to the POLL at the top right of this page to add your answer!

Until tomorrow folks

Day #6 Granny Square Mania + I confess!

Yes it's Day 6 of Granny A Day 2012 & here's my square for today

I made it plain / one colour and you'd be thinking to yourself "well that's an easy one to do"
Am I right?
Well let me tell you, it was a PAIN in the %$£* as I was using a scrap end of yarn & the more I got to the end the more the wool / yarn got worse and worse!

I ended up having to unravel, un knot,  tease strands back into place and 4 knot joins later it was finally finished
PHEW

So there are the 6 so far

Next to blog about is my trip to IKEA - we went (that's me and my lovely husband) a glass cabinet for our wine glasses, a project well overdue.

Whilst we were there I saw these lovely baskets and I thought that they would be just the ticket for sorting out my yarn stash!
(more later)

My Giant Granny Blanket is growing
Before you scroll down to the next picture, can you see the flaw?
Look in the bottom right hand corner

Yes I ran out of baby pink, so I swapped to the next colour that I use in the row above and continued with that.

Here's the close up
I must admit, you don't really notice it
Do you?

OK so back to the baskets and the yarn stash.
Another long over due project
but I got my back into it

A little bit of this & a little bit of that....

Firstly I would like to say "Hello", "Ciao", "Hiya", "Bonjour", "Hola", "Bok", "God dag",  "Salaam Alekum," "Guten Tag" & Merhba or Bongu to my home country of Malta! I love to watch the flags popping up on the various gadgets that I have added to my blog and it's fascinating to see where all  you fellow crocheters (hookers) come from!

Next is a picture that I got from one of my pupils today via Email.

If you remember from THIS POST VM and I started this scarf off in one of our lessons, and together we invented the frilly edging.  I made mine in a soft lime colour and they are made from Cotton Tape so ideal with people who don't like the feel of wool are are indeed allergic to it, as her daughter is.  I am sure her daughter will be thrilled with this unique scarf that's turned out so well!

Last but not least is my bed spread.  There have been many posts about the squares that went into the making, however here it is in all it's "winter" glory.  I say "winter" because it's so heavy and warming that in the summer it lives on the banister in the hallway.

A new pupil arrives!

I know that I sound a little surprised with the title of my post today, however with people cancelling, here, there and everywhere of late, I was not too sure whether or not she'd turn up, but she did.

I have made the decision to ask new clients to pay up front in the future and after a little research this does seem to be the norm with lots of different craft classes & as someone else quite rightly pointed out, if you were signing up for an Adult Local Education Class, you would not only have to pay up front for one lesson but for the whole course!

Ok back to today ......

JC has crocheted previously but sadly not for a few years.  She picked up the basic VERY quickly as we went through the foundation chain, slip stitch, double crochet and treble crochets together.  Working at her pace, she crocheted a really good practice block.

To my delight she brought out a blanket pattern that she would like to work on over the Festive Season and I was thrilled when she brought out a print out of an Attic 24 Classic Granny Blanket

So we went through the recommended practice swatch together and I must say I am thrilled with the way her work has turned out!

After a dog walk, an adjustment to my husbands beanie hat (he wore it today on the dog walk and realised that he needed more of a turn up to pull down over his ears in these days of chill) and making sure that all my bits and bobs were packed and ready to go off to Merton Abbey Mills tomorrow, I continued with my swatch as I think I could turn it into either a Kindle Cover or a scarf!

Wish me luck for tomorrow. I would LOVE a total sell out - obviously - so call back in tomorrow and I will update my blog with news

It wasn't me!

It wasn't me - really, it wasn't!!

This was brought in today by one of my Students!!

She's been making a blanket for her Mum, who lives abroad, for Christmas - wow what a FAB present to receive!!

All she had to do was to finish of the edge

So we had to revisit Double Crochet (that's Single Crochet for all the Crochet Friends in the USA) as she'd been working in Trebles (that's DC in the USA) for so long that she had forgotten them!!

So the edging was finished off and the blanket looks superb!

She's now officially a "Hook A Holic" or Crochet Addict!!
Well done CD
