A little bit of this & a little bit of that....

Firstly I would like to say "Hello", "Ciao", "Hiya", "Bonjour", "Hola", "Bok", "God dag",  "Salaam Alekum," "Guten Tag" & Merhba or Bongu to my home country of Malta! I love to watch the flags popping up on the various gadgets that I have added to my blog and it's fascinating to see where all  you fellow crocheters (hookers) come from!

Next is a picture that I got from one of my pupils today via Email.

If you remember from THIS POST VM and I started this scarf off in one of our lessons, and together we invented the frilly edging.  I made mine in a soft lime colour and they are made from Cotton Tape so ideal with people who don't like the feel of wool are are indeed allergic to it, as her daughter is.  I am sure her daughter will be thrilled with this unique scarf that's turned out so well!

Last but not least is my bed spread.  There have been many posts about the squares that went into the making, however here it is in all it's "winter" glory.  I say "winter" because it's so heavy and warming that in the summer it lives on the banister in the hallway.

Rainbow Scarf.....

What started of as a "sampler" or "tester" to help a student to follow a pattern she wanted to follow has grown and grown.....

Instead of undoing the work I do in class, as I normally do, I decided to carry on adding to this one....

with more and more rows of alternating colours....

I even took it along to the Craft Fair to work on

However last night

It all came to an end 

As I edged it with a row of trebles in burgundy, then

a row of double crochet in yellow, then one in blue and a final row of half trebles in a light green

And here it is! 

A Present for the Teacher (that's me)

Isn't this Wonderfully Lovely?  I love Cyclamen, however I have never had one indoors, so when one of my first students JB brought me this for a "Christmas Present for my Teacher" I was so thrilled!

I was also thrilled when she brought out a Beanie Hat and some squares that she'd been making since her last lesson and aren't they all FAB?

In today's lesson we started on 2 totally different squares from a book that I recommended to her.  She'd chosen out about 7 patterns that she would like to complete, so we got started on one, and then another.  She really did do very well and by making her read the pattern out to me, so that I was following her and not reading the pattern myself, it helped her to follow the pattern much better than she had done before!

And this is the stage I had put my hook down at last night.  I have decided to do one more row with each colour and then decide on the colours for the edging.

Ruffled Scarf

This gorgeous ruffles scarf was crocheted using a 5.5mm hook and sublime cashmere merino silk aran (by Sidar) which is 75% extra fine merino, 20% silk & 5% cashmere - I can't even begin to describe how soft this wool feels!

Double Treble crochet was made into the foundation chain

Followed by more double trebles increasing in every alternate stitch to make it ruffle

With a row of double crochet, not only to finish off the piece, but to open up the last row of double trebles crocheted

What a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend! MIL models the Hat & Scarf

On Saturday we didn't do much due to the weather, and on Sunday I was asked to do an extra duty at the Allotment shop and we had been invited to dinner at the In Laws who live around the corner.

The other In Laws live on the coast, and we were invited there on Monday for lunch ....

It was VERY windy!

Now this is the moment you have all been waiting for - My lovely Mother In Law, Jill, trying on her hat and guess what - she loves it!

She is going to look VERY smart out and about with the matching scarf too!

I have also been busy with my squares for the blanket too! As you can see I have made enough to join a further 11 in a row, and have made a start on another row too!  I tried a left to right square (see middle square in the right hand side picture) and it worked out very well for a change!!

Still Hooked!!

Just in case you were wondering, I am still crocheting away!

I have now completed my Mother In Laws hat a scarf set

And I am very pleased with the results as I had to ad lib on my hat, so had to do the same again, which of course was more difficult 2nd time around!!

I have also joined another row of 10 crochet squares to the blanket

It now measures 10 squares by 11 squares!!

It's getting harder and harder to take photo's so this is the best I could do due to it's size.

MIL's hat & scarf project

 As previously mentioned, my lovely mother in law has asked for me to crochet her a hat like mine, so I have done that and now I have started on a matching scarf, which she didn't ask for, but when I offered she sounded thrilled!  The wool arrived from EbaY, but I started on the stock I had to hand, so I could get started straight away.  The pictures here are off my hat and scarf, as a reminder for you, but when this new set is finished I will take more pictures.   The hardest thing was to get the hat right as like on the 1st one, I had to adapt the pattern to fit my head. Fortunately MIL's head is the same size so I got a good fit.

Other things & my first order.....

Yesterday we, my husband & I that is, went to a pub called The Chequers,  Rowhook in West Sussex, to meet his Mum and her man (a very long term partner) for lunch.  It was a lovely day and the roads were clear, so we whizzed down there in double quick time in his sports car!!

The food was delicious and they cater for a gluten free diet without the blink of an eye, which makes a nice change!

I have also had my first order - my lovely mother in law has ordered a hat - the same as the one I made for myself (which I took down for her to try on) and in the same colours too!  I said that I would make her a matching scarf too & I have already ordered the wool from EbaY as I found it on there cheaper than the wool shop sell it for.

Before this lovely mid day luncheon, I had an appointment at the hospital to have my toe stitches out and this is what my big toe now looks like now.  In 2 weeks time I have to gently massage the scar and in 8 weeks time I have to go back for a final check up.
I was told to go about as normal, so in my head I was thinking "oh good I can go and plant potatoes at the allotment" but in reality, it's all still a little tender and not as easy to walk, so I will go the allotment but just to take down some kitchen scraps and water the greenhouse.  I don't want to rush things!

When I got home I was greated by mountain of post, one of which was this lovely "Get Well Soon" card from the Brownies...

How lovely of them to do that for me.  I will treasure it forever!

5 colours x 6 rows =

= alot of time!!

I have now crocheted 6 full rows:  a row to me is a block of all the colours so Fuschia, Yellow, Lilac, Green & Beige.

Each colour takes 20 minutes to do, so a row takes 100 minutes or an hour and 40 minutes.

That amounts to 600 minutes = 10 hours!!  It just looks like a very wide scarf at th moment!

I won't bore you with another photo!!  I am enjoying the simplicity of working in TC all the time as it doesn't take alot of concentration.
