Crochet Days in Dorset - GAD 272 & 273 & 274

Friday 28th and Saturday 29th September 2012 sees the first of

Crochet Days in Dorset

The "Crochet Days" started on Friday at noon with tea and a light lunch, then the three ladies that attended

took a "Crochet Personality Quiz" to complete for a bit of fun.

I was lucky to have LW & JB from my old Surrey classes and CF who's one of my new ladies on the course who lives locally

JB brought along all these lovely squares

Here she is altering one or two of them to the correct size

And LW decided to concentrate on baby items

Whilst CF was busy mastering the art of a "Ripples Blanket"

As the afternoon drew in, we turned on the lights and got all snug with tea & an open fire

The day finished at 5pm.  We had time to freshen up and then meet at the local pub for a very nice meal and a couple of drinks together with lots of crochet chats, amongst other topics, before we all met up again on the Saturday.

Here is JB's first attempt at the Ripples Blanket - didn't she do well?

And LW moved on from a baby hat to baby booties

Whilst CF got busy joining all her Granny Squares together

JB chose a nice border to compliment her squares

once they were joined together.  The border she was practicing used DC with a Back Bump pick up

Here is the base of LW's baby bootie - she learnt to work both the top of the Foundation Chain and the bottom of it too using this pattern, something she had never done before

And this is CF joining her Granny Squares with the Join as you Go method which she liked as she rightly noticed that her blanket will grow more quickly as she was adding more rows each time she joined another square!!

After spending ALL morning crocheting away, which was absolute BLISS, we broke for lunch which was followed by a lovely local walk

And once we were back I got all 3 ladies following a simple symbols pattern.

Following a symbols chart was not something that all of them had done before, so after going through the symbols / stitches, they took it in turns to take us all through a row

And this is what we ended up with!

I asked the ladies to let me keep there work, so that I could make it into one of my Granny A Day squares to commemorate the event.

We used wool holders throughout the days, which came in very handy to keep our balls of wool  on the table, and in turn, self un ravel too!!

So this is JB's Ripples Blanket practice piece

And this is her DC joining squares together

And her edging

LW started on this baby hat which will have ear flaps added

And she also conquered a complicated bootie pattern which she will finish at home

CF made great progress on joining her Granny Squares together

She even managed to get her head around joining squares which didn't have the Granny Shell edge finish to them, so another fantastic achievement!

Plus she followed the Bright Flower pattern, pretty much all by herself, and is going to complete the square once back home

So here is GAD 272 made by JB for GAD Friday 28th September 2012

And here is GAD 273 made by CF for GAD Saturday 29th September 2012

And finally LW made GAD 274 for Sunday 30th September 2012

All the ladies want to know when the next Crochet Days in Dorset will be!!

I have suggested March 2013 for another Intermediate Crochet Course, with a maximum of 4 pupils, so if you are  interested then get in touch

I will also be holding a Beginners Crochet Days - Date to be decided

FEEDBACK RECIEVED SO FAR:

Thank you Ali, for a very enjoyable two days.  It was great - definately worth repeating, if possible - JB

Gad 271

Today is my busy getting ready day for Crochet Days in Dorset which begins tomorrow so today's granny a day is dedicated to organisation on busy bees everywhere.

Wednesday 26 September 2012

Gad 270

Gad 270 is beige and green. Not for any particular reason.

I am also adding a few rows to my giant granny square which has been neglected for some time now. The beauty is that you can add to it at any time you like. As long as the row is completed it will always look finished

Tuesday 25 September 2012

Gas 269

This rather autumnal coloured granny a day is simply perfect for today's weather of wind, rain and falling leaves

GAD 268 & Crochet Days in Dorset

I love Burgundy, don't you?

I have been so busy today with work and then preparing for my Crochet Days in Dorset

This coming Friday / Saturday

I am printing, looking up things, reviewing, practicing and more!!

I want things to be just perfect and all run smoothly, so I think the hard work now will pay off on the day!

YAY

Sunday 23 September 2012

Granny A Day 266 & 267

Saturday is GAD 266

And Sunday is GAD 267

I'll let you decide which one is which!

GAD 265 and Crochet Classes in Dorset

I would just like to start today's Crochet Blog by mentioning that I took a FAB Crochet Class today.

CF came with another fantastic array of Granny Squares that she made from the 200 Crochet Square Book that she bought on my recommendation - 2 of which were set for her homework - and she did a fantastic job.

Unfortunately I forgot to take any photo's.

We went on to crocheting around the "rounds of trebles" that she made so that she could make a Granny Square out of her Trebles Round and
we then went on to practicing a small version of a "Ripples" blanket as she plans to make a Baby Blanket for a friend of hers.

The 2 hours went so quickly!!

Now here is GAD 265

Only 101 more to go!!

That reminds me of the 101 Dalmatians - Maybe I should have made a Black and White one?

Granny A Day 264

This rather splendid GAD square 264 is made with a muted Green with a vibrant Red frame
It reminds me of Christmas colours

Oh dear, it's nearly that time of year again!
Sorry I won't mention the "C" word again for a good while - it's too early

GAD 263 & Made by B!

I am going to start with GAD 263

It's simply a Granny Square made with a selection of scrap / leftover yarns or wool
The reason for GAD - using up yarns or wool that would otherwise be left in the bottom of my basket doing nothing

YAY!

Now for B

She's one of my new pupils

And she's been coming to me for about a month now

She already knew how to crochet, but need more help with following patterns

and this is what she's done, by following a pattern of stars joined as you go

Which will eventually make her a nice scarf!

Another YAY!!

Granny A Day 262 - Allsorts

As you can see GAD 262 is made from "Allsorts" of odd and ends of wool / yarn.

I simply joined lots of "bits" together, that have been lurking in the bottom of my basket for some time now, so it's made (~A~) my basket more tidy and (~B~) another Granny Square!!

GAD 261 - Autumnal Feeling

There is definitely an "Autumnal" feel in the air today

So GAD 261 reflects this in it's Autumnal colours of Deep Green & Beige, Burnt Orange & Brown

I am looking forward to seeing Autumn at its best in the countryside.

Autumn is a nice time of year wherever you live, in the City, Suburbia or indeed the rural location of a country village.  We can all look forward to it together over the next few weeks!

GAD 260 - Dedicated to my Scooby

This is a picture of my dog Scooby

Sadly he died today

He was 13 years and 11 months old and had a heart murmur

So we were expecting him leaving us any day now, but this went on for weeks and weeks.

He was a fighter and we didn't expect him to last as long as he did so we were lucky to have him for the extra time that he stayed with us.

So GAD 260 is dedicated to
Scooby Doo

16.10. 98 to 16.9.12

GAD 259 - Lamb Curry Special

My lovely husband made me a Lamb Curry for dinner tonight and so I dedicate
GAD 259
to the deliciously yummy curry that he lovingly made me

Thanks for reading

GAD 258 + Crochet pupils excel!

Look at what my new pupil brought in as her "homework" today

I was so impressed at her enthusiasm and determination.
She even tried "popcorn" stitches by herself and made a jolly good effort of them

So today we covered colour changes in a Granny Square (see my free tutorials if you want to have a go at this easy peasy lemon squeezy method without any darning in involved)

And then Popcorns
which reminded us both of "basques" for Barbie Dolls once we had completed the first set of popcorns!!

As you can see GAD 258 is a cheat from my class today

But it's a good cheat as I am thrilled with the achievement that CF has made by follow my tuition today
