Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & Boxing Day Granny A Day's

GAD 359 - Christmas Eve - is this unusual granny square that looks as though there are little sails going around it.  I was worried at one stage that I wouldn't be able to do a "join as you go" but it was so pretty that I made it work

I made this GAD in festive colours especially as it's Christmas Day  - Granny A Dy 360

There is a flower in the middle, which unfortunately does not show up in the photo that well

And for Boxing Day today,  Granny a Day 361 - the last Granny Square I have made for this blanket, as it's now 19 by 19 squares big, is this rather nice "filet" square.

So 361 squares and 366 days this year for Granny A Day 2012

That means that I have 5 days left to go.

5 days to complete the borders as I have chosen to do four (why, because I love to crochet and it looks FAB) and tidy up any ends that I may have missed along the way.

I did have a little help today though - my Scrumpy dog was snoring away on my lap as I was adding the last square today.....

GAD 345 & GAD Blanket Border

Granny A Day 345 is this traditional Granny Square in 4 colours

I have also decided to start early on the border of the blanket

As leaving it to the last minute over such a festive period may not be sensible at all.

So as you can see I started the border with a Yellow Row of Trebles.  I was going to leave it at that, but then I found some Green and added a row of Double Crochet

And to that I have added a row of Turquoise Blue Back Post Doubles on top of the Green,

I like the Back Post Doubles as it sits tightly on top of the green which gives a nice effect.  It might not be so clear in the photo's but I like it!

I may finish the border with a soft pink or a lilac but I may not.

You will have to wait and see!

Granny A Day 342, Crochet Lessons & More!

I would like to start today's blog with a photo that my pupil "J" sent me today via Twitter

She came along on Wednesday for a One 2 One lesson and we quickly progressed to making Granny Squares. 

I briefly showed her how to do colour changes and join as you go as we ran out of time, but I reminded her that there were free tutorials on my blog, so I am thrilled to have got this photograph of her work today.

Well done "J" you make me so proud to be a crochet teacher!

Now for my lesson today.....

My lady "C" couldn't decide what to do, so we started flicking through a few books

We soon came across these "spirals" which we both enjoyed making.  The pattern was rather complicated for her so she was glad that I was on hand to help her through it.

I am a "waste not, want not" person as you have probably gathered from my GAD project, so here is my GAD 342 which I turned from a spiral into a Granny Square Center

My Granny A Day Blanket just needs one more row now

It's currently 18 rows by 19 rows = 342 squares

And it needs to be 19 rows by 19 rows to take it up to the 361 square blanket that I planned.

Doesn't it look FAB??

Granny A Day 328 - Interlocking Circles!

Thanks to my pupil CF who brought in this amazing Crochet Book by Edie Eckman called

"Connect the Shapes - Crochet Motifs"

We made these lovely interlocking circles today

We then adjusted the pattern a little when we started working around the edge, so that we were using Trebles & Doubles rather than Double Trebles & Trebles

Granny A Day 328 is now in my Blanket!

I am going to pop over to Amazon now to see if I can get a copy of the book!!

GAD 324 & the blanket so far....

It's now 18 x 18 squares

And I have to get it up to 19 x 19 squares to get it to 361 squares

That leaves me with the final 5 days of the year to make a border.

I will probably border it with a row (or maybe 2) of Granny Shells to keep the Granny Theme going.

Granny A Day 288

This is Granny a Day 288

It's now 18 squares by 16 squares

I had to jump up up on the sofa for extra height to capture, or try to capture the complete blanket, but without complete success unfortunately

GAD 240

GAD 240 means that I have a "square" blanket

Well it's not quite "square" it's actually a "rectangle" as it's 12 squares by 16 squares

I am so pleased with the way it's turning out!

I will have to make sure that I extend the 12 square row to "square" it up in the coming days

Granny A Day 221

Even though I had a tough day today with work and house duties

I put a little more effort into today's GAD with 3 colour changes of Beige, Yellow and that lovely deep bottle green that I really would never tire off

My GAD blanket is so big now that it's draped over my sofa

&

I even get up off my backside to add the next GAD when I get to row 4

As the blanket is too big to haul onto my lap

& makes me feel very hot if I do!

GAD 213 & all is reveald!

GAD 213 is to mark the amount of weeding I have done today, on my day of from work.

I pulled up mainly weeds, but I did look at some lovely flowers in my garden today too!

Granny A Day 199 - Tuesday 17th July 2012

It rained so much yesterday - it was relentless.  Lucky for me my neighbour popped in for a coffee and we did some crochet together.

She was fun to teach as she already knew the terminology and the stitches, so I was just showing her a few

"tricks of the trade"

Here she is, starting on her Granny Square

She got so keen that I had to get my blanket out and show her how to 

do the Join as you Go method!

So Granny A Day 198 is Sarah's square and

Granny A Day 199 is mine

It was a nice way to pass a few hours this morning, whilst the rain did nothing but that - rain!

Which means that I did a little cheat and that I don't have to crochet a GAD square today - which is good really as I have a house guest!

Day 169 of Granny A Day 2012

Today was a beautifully sunny day with blue skies and white fluffy clouds

Need I say more about GAD 169?

Can you see the sunshine, the blue skies and the white fluffy clouds in that square?

GAD 169 means that I have a square of 13 by 13 Granny Squares and here is my blanket so far

I think it looks amazing

and I love it to bits

Granny A Day 150 & Tunisian Crochet

Granny A Day 150 is this rather lovely colour combination of 

A Deep Pink Centre

A Bright Yellow 2nd row

A Dull but still attractive Grey 

Rounded off with a vibrant Orange!

These are all odd colours from my Yarn Scraps basket

Due to my move and therefore clear out of stuff from my Crochet Room I have the space to lay my 

Granny A Day Blanket

of 150 Granny Squares to date

on the floor to photograph it

I love it!

After yesterday's rather brilliant Filofax Cover, which is now in pride of place on my Filofax, which I use a lot, I have gone back to adding a few more rows on my Tunisian Crochet Scarf

As you can see, it's getting thinner the more rows I add.  I must be missing a few stitches here and there as I go, but it's good practice!

I will probably DC in traditional crochet, all around the edge, once its finished to give it a nicer look & I can't wait to wear it.

It's another good way to use up odd balls of wool and yarn.
