Infinity Scarf, GAD 237 (Friday) 238 (Saturday) & 239 (Sunday) + an AHHHHhhhhh Moment

I finally managed to complete my Infinity Scarf

After looking at a feature that I saw in Inside Crochet Magazine (See Issue 31 - July), You Tube and a message from Olga (thank you so much Olga)

So combined with all this information

I got the "twist" in my foundation change

A completed the scarf that I made for my friends birthday in September - I also made her some matching fingerless mittens to match too!

Baby Blanket, Mittens & GAD 226 - PHEW Crochet overload....

Yes, I am pleased to report that the Spiral Baby Blanket is finally finished - ahead of the pending "pop" I would like to add!

Here it is in its full glory

As you can see there is Baby Blue, Baby Pink, Baby Yellow & White swirling around in spirals of Granny Shells

Finished off with a Baby Green Border in scallops of Grannys

These colours work well really as the Mother to be is from the Philippines, so their flag is Red, Blue, White & Yellow and the Father to be is Irish so their that's the Green bit!

Do you see my thinking behind this?

Next is the mittens

During the Olympic Closing Ceremony I got a little bored, so I picked up a new ball of Aran Wool and a 5mm hook and I started to crochet a block / square / rectangular shape. 

I made sure that the chain that  I started with went around my wrist - 25 chains - and then I crocheted in Half Trebles until the block / square / rectangle got to just above my knuckles.

After that I didn't break off the wool - I simple joined the seams with a single crochet down the longest part, leaving a gap for the thumbs

I now have a pair of mittens which are wonderfully warm and cosy and will allow me to get on with various activities when it's cold enough to wear them e.g. stacking the chilled produce at work!

I had some left over Aran at the end of the ball so I made GAD 226 with it

Granny A Day 219 is dedicated to all the daisies that I saw on my dog walk today

Well to be honest I am not too sure if they are all daisies as such, but all daisy looking flowers or even "weeds" I think, as some were growing in abundance in the corn field, but I feel that weeds can be as beautiful as a flower and don't deserve such a "stigmata" of a name

I am now going to concentrate on a few hours of work on the spiral granny baby blanket as "baby" is due in August!!

Day #37

It's Day 37 of Granny A Day already and I can't believe how quickly my Granny Blanket is growing!  I am sticking to Granny Squares and not being tempted to deviate at all - however with Valentines day coming up and the Diamond Jubilee  + the Olympics, I may have the odd "one off's" on the days in question!

My friend, who has just given birth to Baby B sent me this fantastic photo today -  baby fingers through her Baby Granny Blanket....

Ahhhhh!! I will treasure this picture forever!

Now this is Granny A Day No. 37 in White, Burgundy & Brown made from wool or yarn scraps

And this is all 37 squares together

It's going to look FANTASTIC once it's finished & I am so glad I started this!

Day #25 Granny A Day, Poncho Update & Baby Blanket Gifted

Granny A Day No. 25

Hello fellow Crocheter's - well I presume you are if you are reading this blog!!??!!

Anyway I do hope you are all well?  

I must say that I am really excited whenever I take a look at my blog at the Feedjit Section and see the Country Flags that are clocking up - Recently there has been Egypt (I was only there a month ago) and Malta (that's where I am from) Greece (I was in Crete in September) Ireland - I love the Irish and have a lot of great Irish Friends.  Brazil has popped up recently - I would love to visit there one day as I would Israel!

If you don't have a Feedjit Widget on your blog then just pop there and get one for FREE!  I love it.

Next, I would like to say "HI" to my followers on Twitter - I love to tweet when I can and I especially like to follow fellow Crochet minded Twitters who are currently sending in their Top Tips for Crochet for my new page, which I do hope that you will all enjoy!

Talking of Blog Pages - my Patterns For Sale  page is doing ever so well - I think that the Filofax Pattern is still on top but the Hearts Pattern is doing so well that it will be my best seller soon.

Now for my Poncho

I am loving it - I still want to add a few more rows

& I really like the colours that I have added in - thanks to Tweets suggesting that some random colour rows would look good and they do!

I also decided to do some DC in light cream and then in the deep green around the neckline to pick that area up too.

And remember it's made of 100% Merino Aran so it's a lovely weight and feels every so soft and scrummy!

I will probably finish this tonight - so watch this space.

If YOU want to make this ADULT sized poncho then you'll just have to pop back soon as I did write down how I started it somewhere and it was a combo of several days of searching the web. 

 I know that there are LOADS of Poncho Patterns out there, but to get one that you REALLY love you have to do it your way - make it personal and unique!

My husband said "Oh it is nice, but I can't see you wearing it."  

He's going to get a big surprise once the weather warms up a little

I am even planning a "Summer" one made from Cotton Tape! 

Finally I gave the proud parents to be the Baby Blanket that I made for them.  Baby is due next week and the mother to be (for the 4th time by the way) was telling me how she had misplaced the "family" baby blanket and can't find it for looking so their new Baby Blanket is ideal!

Once Baby is here I will get a photo of Baby in Blanket.

Day 24 - Granny A Day, Baby Blanket, Hat & a Crochet Class!

I made myself a hat!

I wanted one that I could pull down over my ears on a cold and windy dog walk, but I also wanted a "Beret" styled hat, so I followed the pattern I used before for the Purple Beret that I made for my friend (Click Here)

part of the way, but then I did my own thing! (that happens quite a lot)

I made the brim double the width that you can see in the photo below, so when the temperature goes down and the wind starts to cut through my bones, I can pull the brim down and snuggle under with my ears nice and cosy like!

I wore it out today and I love it, especially the detail in the top which gives it that "squidgy" look

Now for Granny A Day No. 24 - nothing exciting, but the next photo is.....

....Yes, all 24 squares - don't they look FANTASTIC together?

I can't wait to see all 366 together - wow what a blanket that will be - but of course I will have to wait until the 31st December 2012 when all 366 squares will be complete.

Now for class news - "L" came to me today - her 2nd class.

She's already picked up the basic stitches of Double Crochet, Treble Crochet and today Half Treble Crochet's very quickly.

Today I asked her what she would like to make with her Crochet and her response was a Granny Square Blanket - YAY - a fellow Granny Square lover, so we got to work on making her first Granny Square.

She wrote a few notes to help her once she got home and I also showed where to find my FreeGranny Square Tutorial - she was impressed by the photo step by step presentation and said that she would take a look when she got stuck!

....But guess what - it wasn't the case!  I didn't run out of wool and I had enough to finish the Scalloped Edging

Granny A Day - Day 23 - Chinese New Year, so in honour of Chinese New Year, I made a RED square as in China they consider Red a colour that brings good luck

Baby Blanket News!

I have decided that the blanket is now big enough, so I have made an edging of trebles to finish it off.  However me being me, I wasn't totally happy with that, so I have now made a further edging

An Edging for Edging !!

Yes, as you can see I have added a scalloped edge to the original edge by making a SC, then 2 tr's then another SC and repeated this.

I am really REALLY pleased with how this is looking now - I only hope that I have enough white 4ply to finish of the 2nd edging - otherwise it will mean a trip to the WOOL SHOP - oh no - poor me - the torture one has to endure! 

LOL

Finally I took a Crochet Class today and my pupil has now decided to start making a little Teddy Bear.  I am so pleased that she's so keen and that she's picking Crochet up so effortlessly.  The only downside to this of course is that she'll soon have learnt enough to be getting on with and won't come along for more lessons so often!

Oh well - that's life.

At least I have passed on a dying art, which she can then pass on to the next generation one day!

Day #19 Granny A Day plus WIP update

 Granny A Day 19 has a vibrant red heart and a blue - navy blue frame

It reminds me that I must make a Red, White & Blue one to celebrate the Queens Jubilee this year

Here are all 19 squares joined together using the Join as you Go method (see Free Tutorials)

Now for my WIP

This is the baby blanket so far.

I have other 2 rows of:

Pink, Green, Yellow & Blue to go and it should be big enough to edge it

Another WIP is my Valentines hearts

I have been working on them for about a month now - writing up a pattern that works and that's easy to follow.

The pattern is being tested by a Twitter Friend at the moment

& as soon as it's ready I will make it available to you all

if there is enough interest.

Day #18 Granny A Day & Poncho

Well here is my Granny A Day for Day 18

It is rather bright, but I love Purple!

I am looking at my scraps of yarns basket and they are all slowly depleting, so I will have to get on with my Giant Granny Square Blanket soon, so that my Scraps Basket can be restocked.

I also have some Red DK now so I can make some more Valentines Hearts

And here, as promised is the start of my Poncho

I found LOADS of patterns on the internet but not one that I really fancied or thought that I would wear once it was finished.  I was tempted to make a Granny Square one - very RETRO

However I am not sure that I am brave enough or indeed young enough to wear something so bright and colourful outside in the big wide world, so I compromised

and chose to make a Granny Shell Poncho instead.

It started off with a Gold / Beige neckline and I am continuing in a lovely Deep Green, as I have 10 x 50 gram balls of this all (including the Gold / Beige) in Aran Merino that I was lucky enough to get in the wool sale for £1 a ball!

I am using a 5mm Hook.

Once I have completed this masterpiece I may post the pattern that is a combination of a few that I came across whilst surfing, unless someone twists my arm before then as it is quite simple once you have got the neckline sorted out!

In other news - the Baby Blanket is still a WIP.  I think that I have one more sequence of colours to go, so :

White, Green, Pink, Yellow & Blue

Once I have finished these rows (2 of each) I will take a look at the size and decide whether or not it's big enough and go from there.  I will have to edge it all the way around before I present it to the proud parents anyway.
