Week 18 - more "hookers" in the making!

This week has been a week of many new Beginners classes & a few regular ones too!

Learning the basics with a good old stitch marker or two to hand is a good start

Teaching more advanced students new skill is always a pleasure, even if it is something as simple as sewing eyes to an Aliens head

or sewing the stalk to the top of a cartoon mushroom!

In another class I taught Broomstick Lace Crochet

And in another

Join as you Go

And in another we had a dab a beading which was excellent fun!

On Saturday I taught Bavarian Crochet to the Shaftesbury Ladies who frequent a most excellent shop called Sparrow UK

It was a full day from 10.30 to 4.30
& they mostly questioned why we needed to start off the workshop using Chunky Yarn & a 6.5mm hook....

However by lunchtime they all understood why!

It was a lovely day and they all enjoyed their "makes"

For some it was a "feather added to their crochet cap" for others it was the revival of their crochet skills as they hadn't hooked for years, however for all it was a continuation of their crochet journey as this skill will now never be lost to them.

Days 238 & 239 Lots of Post & organisation!

Well today was a great day for getting post!

First of all a BIG Crochet THANK YOU TO Renee Kies who sent me this lovely package of DK yarn, an owl clip & 2 wonderful flavour teabags + a lovely card all the way from the Netherlands

If you'd like to follow her on Twitter she's @Blond_Renee

Isn't that lovely of her to reply to my appeal for more DK for my Twitter Blanket & the even nicer thing is that this yarn would not be available easily if at all in the UK so these 4 colours will be extra special.

Today I bought these 2 massive 200g balls of yarn by James C Brett.  The are in the "Marble" range & I love the Autumnal colours of them both.

I am going to make lots of Chunky Beanie Hats with thick ribbing edging with them for the Christmas Fayre I have signed up for on the 5th Dec in The Exchange in Sturminster Newton.

Now back to Renee & her lovely Netherland Yarns

Here they both are - the top one is a flecked Purple, whilst the bottom one is a glitter Fuchsia & I love them both.

The other thing that I got in the post today was.....

I was in desperate need of another one to display my "makes" on in Crochet Class & when I go to venues to teach or to sell.

If you have one knocking around doing nothing then please send it to me as I will give it a very good home!!

And on top of all this I spent the morning preparing for the Class Workshops that start next week!

There was a lot of printing involved, stapling sheets together & getting things organised!

Day 129, Crochet Class & Technology ARRGGGHHHHHHH!

My Crochet Student came on leaps and bounds today!  It's only her 2nd lesson, so we revisited the basics, before moving on to working in the flat round
&
Didn't she do well!!

I have packed her off with some homework, which is to make a flat round in double crochet - I have given her a pattern to follow, so it's a combination of pattern reading and practicing to work in the round!!

Now this is Day 129.  I have combined 2 colours in one here, to try to keep the colour variation going.

And now for the Technology ARRRGGGHHHHHH!

I have Adobe Photoshop, but I have never used it, so today I decided to try to have a go at removing the background of this.....

LOL it looks like it's worked on here as the background here is white, but when I try it elsewhere e.g. on the cover of my book, it shows as having a white background, which I don't want.

Give me a hook any day!!

Day 108 + Workshop news!

I have loads to tell you today, but not a lot of photo's as I have been sooooo busy!

So here is the photo of the post

Day 108

I used 2 strands of the sock wool that I am using for my current pair of socks.

Sock Number 2 is currently in production and nearly at the end!!

So more news !

I took 2 workshops today - both 2 hours long.

One was for a group of 5 beginners which went really really well.  It was full of chat and crochet, probably more chat than crochet, but we got to working in rows with nice straight edges thanks to the stitch markers & using Double & Treble Crochet so we didn't do too badly!

The 2nd was with a lovely lady from Shaftesbury who has wanted to crochet for a long time.  She did really really well and she learnt to work in rows, in Double & Treble Crochet and has promised to practice lots before her next lesson.

In the meantime I had further "enrollments" to my eLearning course from 2 pupils that I teach One2One as an addition to their private lessons with me.  This will give them good back up for times when I am not there with them, at home in their lounge when they want to practice!!

In other news - my new wool has arrived from someone that I am doing a commission for.  It's lovely & I can't wait to get going on this project this weekend!!

And finally

I turned down - yes DOWN an offer of making up a piece, so that's where you are provided with a pattern & the wool & have to crochet the piece.

The piece in question was an adult cardigan, which I estimate would take around 20 hours to produce.  For what they were offering me, £50, that works out to £2.50 per hour - Minimum Wage is currently £6.19 per hour.
I rest my case.

And finally finally

Look what I bought today

A Vintage Stitch / Row counter! I can't wait for it to arrive as I will use it lots and lots so money well spent.

That's it from me - sorry for the lack of photo's!

Day 99 & Classroom News!

Scrumpy is getting bored waiting for me to finish his Bitsa Blanket!

So he takes it out on Turtle the Doorstop

By chewing off one of his feet, so I had to get the needle out & sew him up before his lentils came out!

Class news now.

The 4 week course turned into a 7 week course and today was the very last class!

One lady was busy with Colour Changes in a Granny Square

Whilst another was joining her various squares together

And another was also up to Colour Changes!

Here they all are telling me how much they have enjoyed their Crochet Experience

 Hasn't C done a FANTASTIC job?

And more colour changes from "L"

And finally "C" made a lovely flower at home which she is now going to attach to one of her squares!

Day 99 means that my Twitter Blanket is  "blanket like" again!

I love the fact that SO FAR every square is a different colour.

Day 80 - 2 Crochet Workshops News & MORE!

This is the link to my "yarn" or should I say "wool" friend across the pond.

On her latest blog posted earlier today, she mentions that I have inspired her, so go and take a look & see for yourself!

My beginners class this morning went very well!
Last week we worked on Flat Rounds, in preparation for learning Granny Squares today and that's what we did - Granny Squares - YAY - I love Granny Squares, however I forgot to take photo's so I will have to send them to you next week!

Day 80 is this "Rose Pink" square.  Another new colour for another new day!

And here they all are - no 2 squares are the same colour so far

And that's all thanks to either pupils or Twitters like @alithealien who donate scraps of wool to me - I had a lovely surprise in the post today from Ali so thank you Ali xx

Now for the Intermediates

As you can see they have worked really hard on their crochet projects

With Join as you Go being a firm favorite

We have already come to the end of this 4 week workshop - where did the time go??
The good news - Crochet news - is that they all want to come again for more classes!!!

If you click on this link then you will see a FAB Crochet top worn by Kimberly Walsh
Very inspiring!
Thanks to @Helen B Proofreading for sending this link to me
