Day 46, Traffic & Crochet Class & so much more to share.....

I started looking at my blog today & I though to myself - where do all my crochet friends come from?  So I clicked on a few relevant buttons & found that one of the sources was from this page...

Liberty's Yarn

I was found under Google's Top 10 Crochet Blogs along with names like Attic 24 & Crocheting the Day Away, so I feel pretty honoured.

Thank You Liberty for not only doing this research but for also sending people to my blog too!

***************************

Another interesting page that I found on FB via Sara Duggan's Crochet Business Facebook Page was this:

So I thought I'd share it with you all.

****************************

Another thing I want to share is this great ONLINE Wool / Yarn shop

Yarn & Craft Shop

They have great selection of wools, yarns & accessories + 50% off Selected items!

& finally

One more thing to share with you before I get on to Day 46 & what happened in Crochet Class today is

Yes, it's How to crochet in Trebles (UK Terminology) and get straight edges

Here's what happened in Crochet Class today

Yes this was made by my pupil K, who has only just learnt colour changes & join as you go!
Isn't it amazing?
She's going to line it and make it into a hook case & she has lots of lovely homework to complete for next time & I can't wait to see it!!

And finally
and I mean finally
as I do realise that there is a lot on this blog post today

Here is Day 46

Another new colour, or in this case colours!

Day 3 ASAD + More Free Tutorials

Day 3 means that I can show you how to join as you go when you come to working 3 corners together.

On square 3, Granny Shell your way across to the first corner as per the picture below

Now insert your hook into the 3 chain corner space of the Granny Square directly above

WOH and pull through to the front, then make a chain by slipping the wool you have just pulled through, through the loop on the hook
That's 1 chain of the 3 you need for a corner space

Now you have joined Square 3 to Square 2

As there are always 3 chain spaces in a corner, make a chain at this stage (so this is chain 2)

Now put your hook into the 3 chain corner space of the square to your left

 WOH & pull through

Then slip the wool through the loop on the hook so you have one loop remaining on your hook and you have made chain 3 for that corner space

Now continue to work your Granny Shells (three trebles) all the way around as per the pattern on Day 1

And there you have it!

Day 3

And here are all 3 squares together so far

GAD 198 & 199

Granny A Day 198 - Monday 16th July 2012

Granny A Day 199 - Tuesday 17th July 2012

It rained so much yesterday - it was relentless.  Lucky for me my neighbour popped in for a coffee and we did some crochet together.

She was fun to teach as she already knew the terminology and the stitches, so I was just showing her a few
"tricks of the trade"

Here she is, starting on her Granny Square

She got so keen that I had to get my blanket out and show her how to

do the Join as you Go method!

So Granny A Day 198 is Sarah's square and
Granny A Day 199 is mine

It was a nice way to pass a few hours this morning, whilst the rain did nothing but that - rain!

Which means that I did a little cheat and that I don't have to crochet a GAD square today - which is good really as I have a house guest!

Granny A Day 151 and my LAST Crochet Classes in Surrey

The First of my 2 classes today was attended by one of my oldest (as in time, not in her age!!) pupils who brought a variety of projects along with her.

One of them was called a Maggie Wrap (which if you google you will find online or via Ravelry, which included the beginnings of  the square that you see below as Granny 151.

She had to make the squares and join them as you go, but she didn't see that bit so she had to "frog" the last row of quite a few squares and then I showed her how to join as you go.

She was so thrilled that she brought this along to her last class as she could now finish her project but she was very sad that it was our last lesson together.

I then decided, after a mad dash to the wool shop for some Royal Blue wool, to try out , experiment even, with making a Union Jack Granny Square in time for the Royal Celebrations ahead of this coming
Diamond Jubilee weekend.

Class 2 and my very very final class in Surrey, was with LG who came to me only 2 weeks ago, to learn how to make Granny Squares

This is what she brought along!!

I am very impressed.

In Lesson 1 she learnt to make the basic Foundation Chain and Treble Crochet + start a Granny Square.

In Lesson 2 - that very same week, she learnt to colour change and how to neatly darn in all the ends as you go, to save darning in with a needle at the end, therefore saving her from a horrible end task which so many of us hate and today she learnt how to Join As You Go

And this is what she achieved

Isn't it a fantastic job!
I am really thrilled that she's taken to Crochet so passionately and so quickly too!

She thanked me at the end and said that I am a very good and very patient teacher - how lovely of her.

I shall miss all of my pupils however, I looked forward to all my new pupils that will come along in Dorset.

Granny A Day 130 and more.....

It's another RAINY day so I decided to stay home and dry and have poke around to see if there were any projects that needed completion.
I came across a pile of multi coloured hexagon Grannies

So I decided to join them together to make a scarf

It took me all day to join them in the "join as you go" method as I had to add a border to each hexagon

I then had a break and made Granny A Day 130
I can't believe it's day 130 of the year already!

I have included a photo of the back of the Granny Square today so that you can see how neat the "other side" of the square is using the Join as you Go method, which I couldn't have done without for this project.

Imagine having to join 130 squares from scratch now - it would put me off!
It would have turned GAD into a chore rather than the pleasure that it has been every day

After GAD 130 I went back to the scarf

And as you can see I have started to make a border around the joining edge

To make the whole scarf more "chunky" and more valuable as a scarf

Thanks for reading and please feel free to leave a comment if you pop by as I love to read comments and I DO answer them all!
