Day 122 - More Flowers Have Arrived

Today's Flower Power Award goes to +Alithealien Crochet

Who made these lovely lovely Flowers for me to put on my scooter when it arrives

I loved them so much that I had to make my own version straight away

Not bad guess work eh?

However I now have the link to the flowers, so if you want to make some too then click here

This is Day 122 in this vibrant turquoise cotton which I love - the way the cotton shimmers is just delicious

Granny A Day 203 & 204 - Weekend Wonders!

Saturday's GAD are shades of Green & White

The my neighbour came along with this WONDERFUL bunch of flowers from her own garden for me

So I tried to reflect the beauty of these in GAD 204

And combined with GAD 203 I think I have picked out some of the colours portrayed in their blooms

Granny a Day #59, Crochet Pupils & Flowers!

First is Flowers!

My Crochet Student LW wanted to make flowers today, so together we followed a new flower pattern from the 100 flowers to knit and crochet book by Leslie Stanfield.
She made the lovely Maroon one and I made the red one.
However, the important thing here is that she read the pattern!  She also used the chart to help when she got stuck on the pattern reading, as one does sometimes.
Well done LW.

Unfortunately my other lady couldn't make it today, so I hope that I see her next Tuesday.

Now for GAD #59
I chose these lovely warming colours - the ball to the right of the picture is Peach and not white.

And made this Square for my GAD blanket

I loved the flowers so much that I made a few more

And some more after that!

With a few leaves too!

I don't know what I am going to do with them yet - I am sure they will come in handy one day soon.

Thanks for reading & I'll be back tomorrow for another

My last Blog Post before Christmas 2011 *pulls a sad face*

Yes, this is the last blog post as I am going to Egypt (the birth place of my Grandfather) on holiday for the Festive Season.

So, today I had my last Crochet Lesson of 2011.  JC was my pupil and she's the lady that got me hooked on Rainbows!  Today, I taught her how to follow a couple of patterns that she would otherwise have abandoned due to frustration and here are two examples of her work

Firstly we created these lovely little flowers + worked on joining a new colour behind the flower so that one can continue to work in a square

And then we went on to a flower that requires chains to be worked behind the petals so that more & large petals can be worked behind the smaller ones in the front!

JC is a great pupil to teach.  She sits there talking to herself "one double crochet, two chains, three trebles..." "oh, I did three trebles but meant to do three chains....."
"Wool over..."

and on she chats, which really makes me chuckle as she's obviously concentrating hard.

What a great lesson  to end 2011 on!

Wishing you all a

Merry Christmas

and I will be back in time for 2012

Finishing Touches

Oops it's upside down, anyway, the important thing is that you can see how I have finished the back of this top.  This is where you were supposed to put some buttons.
Can you see the "flap" or overlay that I mentioned on my last post?  That's the bit I will miss out on next time.

p.s. I managed a trip to the Allotment Greenhouse yesterday so please see http://www.alithefrog.blogspot.com/ for pictures!

Summer Breeze Top is finished!

Yes, it's finally completed & I am pleased with how it's turned out.  There are a few things I would do differently next time (yes I will be making another one)

1. I will not be making the "band" as big - I measured around the middle of my boobs and should have done the average of that bit and my body.  Once sown together, the back "hung" so a plan of action was needed as I could not unpick the whole lot, so what I did was to gather the front from armpit to armpit.

2. I will make the straps 2 or 3 chains thicker but not as thick as the pattern suggested (14)  I made 7 chains but 10 would have been better.

3. I will make the strap length smaller as I followed what the pattern suggested and painstakingly had to unpick them both and reduce the length and stitch them back!  So next time it will be 14 inches.

4. I will not be doing the suggested back flap again.  Can't see the point, but I have done it on this one.  I suppose you could make it into a "feature" as they suggest putting buttons down this and I might make some small flowers and put them down this bit, but I am not sure yet.

I decided to add some crochet flowers.....
....Instead of the suggested buttons.

Flowers!

I didn't fancy making any squares yesterday as I had a busy day!  I spent 2 hours at the allotment getting rained on, brought home the last parsnip harvest, made parsnip soup, made a slow cooker chilli con carne even though it was hubby's turn to cook, but he had gone to play golf!!

I then had to go to Brownies, and on my return, I had to serve dinner!!  Hmmmm something has gone wrong here, but when I think about it, he will have to wait on me hand and foot for a few weeks to come - haha

Anyway I was pooped so I made some crochet flowers instead

The pattern was a little complicated at first, but it's a case of try, try & try again.

p.s. does anyone know what a double row is??  Do you repeat the same row again???

Day 11 - Already!!

I can't believe how quickly the days go when you have all day to do what you have to do! I am feeding my neighbours lovely cats Poppy & Jack this week, as they have gone to Dartmouth on holidays and the cat feeder that they used to pay a fortune too, who I thrice watched going into their house, and out again in 2 minutes flat, shocked me when I was told their charges.
I put the telly on, watch Egg Heads on BBC2, play with them once they have finished their food and wash up their bowls each evening.

I might take my crochet tonight - oh maybe not as I have Brownies tonight.

Crochet - yesterday I managed these squares......

This is called the Framed Flower

And this is the Lacy Cross

The Big Round &

below is

The big pile up!
Yes, I have all these squares to join together.

Time for another joining session I think, but I need to go to the wools shop for supplies of Brown, Parchment, Terracotta & Ivory - better get my purse out!!
