The Weekend....165, 166 & 167

The weekend has been one of Crochet, starting with this great bit of news from Bristol....

I can only imagine that that crochet'er has a VERY large hook & an even bigger living room or studio to create that in!

Friday was Day 165....

 

Thankfully one of my lovely students gave me the end of her Sock Yarn stash.  As it's sock weight I used 2 strands of this variegated yarn & it's come up lovely!

As I mentioned earlier, its' been a weekend of Crochet.....

I managed to finish another 2 commissions for magazines, so I am really pleased that I have beaten yet another deadline with plenty of time to spare.

And I crocheted with a lovely soft yarn that was a pleasure to work with!

 

 

Days 166 & 167 also follow the sock yarn theme thanks to KPK

I know that they are all made from the same yarn

but the colours have come up so completely differently in each square

that they qualify to be in my Twitter blanket

I make up the rules so there!

Granny A Day 191 + Someone is doing their homework!!

Look at this little lot!

Didn't she do fantastically well - all these Granny Squares and practice blocks

AHA took her homework very seriously since her last lesson on the 29th June!

As you can see from the Red & White Granny Square she made, I was inspired to make one of my own for GAD 191

I did try to steal the one AHA made, so that I could have a day off from GAD today, but that would have been really bad cheating wouldn't it?

Whilst we were sitting there, crocheting away together, I noticed all the different materials that our crochet hooks are made of.....

From Left to Right:

Glass, Aluminium, Bamboo, Foam with Metal, Plastic & Plastic (ok that's 2 plastic but they looked different at the time!!)

Granny A Day 121 & Crochet Class News!

My "Saturday Lady" came for a Crochet Lesson today.  She has a weeks holiday, so no I haven't gone mad as I know it's Monday!!

She invested, very wisely, in the 200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws & Afghans Book by Jan Eaton (click HERE if you want to get your copy) which is a book that I have myself and is an investment as you can use it over and over for all sorts of projects.

Anyway, she came in with a multitude of fantastically Crocheted squares

Here are just a few

And one of the things we covered in her lesson was joining with Double Crochet.

We also followed the square no. 22 "St Petersburg" which covers fptr & bptr

Front Post Treble & Back Post Trebles

This is my one, which I have made into GAD 121

OK, OK so I have cheated a little bit today, but 

I thought it would be a shame to frog it. I know that the sides look a little wonky at the moment but they will soon straighten out once other squares are joined.

We also covered Square 38 "Dahlia" which uses Popcorn Stitches

We also went over the "ripples" cushion in another favourite book of mine

As she was having problems following the pattern.  It was a little strange, as she's already made two, yes TWO of these cushion covers before.  It was just the way the pattern was written that was stumping her this time!!

I must agree that the way the pattern is written in Black & White is a little questionable and in my opinion and that of "Saturday Lady's" can be written in a more self explanatory way.

So we covered all the "want to's" on her list

and we even went through

How to add a zip to a cover instead of closing the cushion inner inside

All over a nice cup of coffee too

Which was a great achievement in 2 hours!

I am really pleased with how the lesson went & I am sure that my pupil was too.

It's a real thrill for me when pupils who started as Crochet Beginners, slowly climb the Crochet Ladder and start to work on more advanced stitches and techniques.

Granny a Day #59, Crochet Pupils & Flowers!

First is Flowers!

My Crochet Student LW wanted to make flowers today, so together we followed a new flower pattern from the 100 flowers to knit and crochet book by Leslie Stanfield. 

She made the lovely Maroon one and I made the red one.

However, the important thing here is that she read the pattern!  She also used the chart to help when she got stuck on the pattern reading, as one does sometimes.

Well done LW.

Unfortunately my other lady couldn't make it today, so I hope that I see her next Tuesday.

Now for GAD #59

I chose these lovely warming colours - the ball to the right of the picture is Peach and not white.

And made this Square for my GAD blanket

I loved the flowers so much that I made a few more

And some more after that!

With a few leaves too!

I don't know what I am going to do with them yet - I am sure they will come in handy one day soon.

Crochet Update

Granny A Day #54 PLUS a Students very hard work!

Hasn't she done well?

Not only has LW finished of her lovely "ruffles" scarf

But she completed her homework too, which was to practice making a round in Trebles, so that she go the hang of increasing

AND

She's also made a load more little squares for her blanket too!

I am so pleased with her work as she's only had a few lessons so far, but it's the practising that is making all the difference - so the say is true after all

"Practice makes Perfect"

And from me - here is Granny A Day 54

I haven't been crocheting these last few days as I went away on a mini break

So to have a class to teach first thing this morning was great!

Day #44, Bag Lined, Valentines Card & a New Class

Not in the order of the title above!!

Firstly I made a blue crocheted heart

For my Husband's Valentines Card

Blue is his favourite colour - see how wonderful crochet is!!

 Oh it looks black in this picture, but it's 100% as blue as in the picture above

I do hope he'll be pleased with it.

Next is the bag that I started in a class on Saturday.

I finished it and all I had to do was to line it.

So out came "old faithful" my vintage Singer Sewing Machine

And I got to work sewing the two sides together

I then pinned it to the inside of the bag, hemming in the top as I went along

Making sure that it was even all the way around

And I sewed it into place

Et Voila!  

Apart from a catch its all done.

Next is my Granny A Day for Day 44

I think it's some Football Team's colours but I can't think who's it is

And finally, I had a new pupil today

She had been on a Crochet Group Class before but that was over a year ago,

so I think she did ever so well to do as well as she did today.

We went through all the basics

Foundation Chain

Slip Stitch

Double Crochet and

Trebles too!

Here's a practice swatch that she made.

The picture doesn't actually do it justice as it was very "square" when I took the photo.

Her ambition is to make amigurumi toys and she brought in a book of patterns full of ghouls and ghosty's, vampires and monsters!  They look SO cute.

She also want's to make Granny Squares too so a great mix of modern and traditional.  I can't wait!

Another day in my Crochet World

Hi everyone, I had a busy day yesterday with a Crochet Class at a local "Arty" Cafe to start the day off.  I went to speak to the owner about holding Crochet Classes at her venue in January 2012 and not only did she think it was a great idea, but she wanted to take a few classes herself!

Next was one of my regular students who I haven't seen for a few weeks due her having a major cold last week, which she kindly text me about to let me know, so we rescheduled.  She came along producing one completed beanie hat - 

Isn't it simply FANTASTIC

When she came to me 5 lessons ago, she didn't know how to crochet and now she's turning out Beanie Hats and a scarf for her Mother's Christmas present, which we decided between us that it would be very ambitious to complete in time for the day, so it's now going to be a cowl.  So 10 hours of one to one lessons and she's doing wonders!

Another thing that I completed yesterday was to finish off the Beanie Hat ordered by my Postman.  I wasn't happy with the lettering - it was too "spidery" so I decided to make the lettering thicker....

....and now it looks perfect.

I also discovered a site called Urban Knit .co.uk and so I took a look on there.  They sell 100% Acrylic Scarves for £29.99!!!  I wish I could sell one of mine for that price!

I also started my commission order yesterday and all I have to do now is email the buyer with a photograph of the ear flap hat so far, to see if she would like anything added or altered before I finish it off.

Oh, and I contacted the Merton Abbey Mills people too that Mrs. Jones kindly left me a comment about - I am hoping that I can get a one off stall there this coming Sunday.  It's a "handmade" orientated place, so the people that go there to buy, are expecting to pay some money for goods, not like the craft fair that I did last week which I know I shouldn't moan about, as I actually did ok, but the people who went there were expecting car boot sale prices,  not "hand made" and not "mass produced".  So hopefully I will hear from them today and I can pack up my leftover stock (of which there is quite a bit) and Pixie my mannequin and spend the day selling my wares and giving out leaflets about my crochet classes!

It wasn't me!

It wasn't me - really, it wasn't!! 

This was brought in today by one of my Students!!  

She's been making a blanket for her Mum, who lives abroad, for Christmas - wow what a FAB present to receive!!

All she had to do was to finish of the edge

So we had to revisit Double Crochet (that's Single Crochet for all the Crochet Friends in the USA) as she'd been working in Trebles (that's DC in the USA) for so long that she had forgotten them!!

So the edging was finished off and the blanket looks superb!

She's now officially a "Hook A Holic" or Crochet Addict!!
