Day #14 - Crochet Day! YAY

I couldn't believe it today when I found that I had over 12,000 page views on this blog!

 I  now have a lovely bag which is ideal for a small project such as my WIP Baby Blanket

It's totally unique and I love it

Now for some sad news - Granny A Day #8 is now no longer

It was really bugging me - it was made from DK but it looked like the runt of the litter 

and even though it had other squares around 3 sides, I decided that it had to go as it would always catch my eye & before long it would be too late to take action

So I cut it out!!

Then I made another Day #8 Granny A Day and joined it into place

I then made Granny A Day #14 and popped that onto the end

Now I know that I have 3 WIP's on the go at the moment

The Giant Granny Square.....

The Baby Blanket ....

& the Granny A Day project

But I decided that I needed a change, so I have decided to make over my lounge Draught Excluder

It actually looks ok as it is and it serves it's purpose well, but it does look a little boring

So I have made a start on a cover for it using 2 balls (at the same time) of DK (because it's more like 4 ply) and a 5mm hook.

As you can see, there is a colour mix of Brown, Black, Beige & White

And these colours will compliment my lounge perfectly.

Day #10 Granny A Day + Giant Granny + Singer! (LOL don't worry it's not me about to sing)

I am going to start Day 10 with  a Giant Granny Square update

& here it is!

I am currently on row 38.

I try to add a row or two a night, although that's getting tougher time wise as the rows get bigger!

Now this is Granny Square 10

And here are all 10 Squares together as I am doing the "Join as you go method"

(see Free Tutorials if you want to learn this way of joining squares)

I am not too worried about blocking any of the squares as the blanket is going to be enormous once all 366 are joined together!

I went to the fabric shop on a whim today as I was passing by, so I stopped and picked up a remnant of cream fabric to line my large circular basket with.  I have been wanting to do this for some time as the wool occasionally snags on the wicker.

So out came my trusty Singer Sowing Machine - bought about 20 years ago from a Charity Shop for what I thought and still think was a bargain at £30 - and I got to work.

I roughly measured the diameter, cut out a circle of fabric after marking around the base with a marker & got hemming!

TAH DAHHHH

My basket is now lined & my wools are now nice and cosy and snag free!!

Day #8 Granny A Day

Here is my Day 8 Granny Square

And all the others that go with it so far!

I continue to work on my giant granny square blanket and will probably post pictures of the progress on that tomorrow.

I didn't realise that Granny A Day would have so much interest! There are participants on Twitter, Blogger, Ravelry & Flickr too, so collating all the photo's, creating collages and slide shows etc. has taken up a lot of my time today.

I am not complaining, so please don't think that that is the case!  I think it's FANTASTIC that so many of you are joining in.

Day #6 Granny Square Mania + I confess!

Yes it's Day 6 of Granny A Day 2012 & here's my square for today

I made it plain / one colour and you'd be thinking to yourself "well that's an easy one to do" 

Am I right?

Well let me tell you, it was a PAIN in the %$£* as I was using a scrap end of yarn & the more I got to the end the more the wool / yarn got worse and worse!

I ended up having to unravel, un knot,  tease strands back into place and 4 knot joins later it was finally finished

PHEW

So there are the 6 so far

Next to blog about is my trip to IKEA - we went (that's me and my lovely husband) a glass cabinet for our wine glasses, a project well overdue.

Whilst we were there I saw these lovely baskets and I thought that they would be just the ticket for sorting out my yarn stash!

My Giant Granny Blanket is growing

Yes I ran out of baby pink, so I swapped to the next colour that I use in the row above and continued with that.

OK so back to the baskets and the yarn stash.

Another long over due project 

but I got my back into it

Top Row from left to right

1. 5 odd balls of Silver (where did they come from?)

2. More odd balls of baby green & blues

3. Purple balls are added to the basket

4. Then 2 new balls (well unused) of DK white

5. Topped with a bag of 10 balls of white cotton tape

Middle Row from left to right

1.  A bag of 20 multi colour 25g balls of DK (will be used in group class)

2. Basket off newly bought wools (see previous post) 17 x 100g balls in all

3.  Two book shelves full of various - chunky, cotton tape, merino, aran, fine cotton

4. The chair I am sitting on now - wools for my current Giant Granny Square project

5.  6 bags of Merino or Aran (JAEGER) each with 10 balls of wool

Bottom Row from left to right

1. Same as 5 above but from a different angle

2. 7 balls of 100% Cashmere wools (JAEGER) that I got for £1 from the wool sale

3.  My new IKEA basket with baby sized yarns - ideal for my Granny A Day 2012 project

4. More 25g balls of multi coloured acrylic yarns for my group classes

5.  My newly purchased wools in their old basket (so same as Middle row 2)

Oh and I also have a very large bag of wool in the wardrobe in the guest bedroom!! ARRGGHHHH

Must go and sort that one out now
