Anyone for Tennis? Granny A Day 181

I am watching Djokovic V Stepanek playing at Wimbledon
So I decided to make a Tennis Ball Granny Square to commemorate my day of taking it easy and watching the Tennis on TV

GAD 180 - What an exciting day!

This story does lead to my GAD 180!

We had a film crew at our house today
shooting photo's for an album cover

And as you can just make out in this picture, lengths of wool were attached to the piano keys

So I asked them, when they had finished with the lengths of wool they were using, if I could have them and I used the to make GAD 180!

How exciting was that!

However even more exciting is that I had my first DORSET crochet pupil today - AHA
She found me through an advert that I placed in the Blackmore Vale Magazine

She had been taught by a friend previously  and had come along with a Granny Square that they had started together, but she hadn't been taught the "traditional" granny way, and wasn't putting in 1ch spaces or 3 chain corners, nor did she know how to start the Granny Square of as that's something that her friend had done, however she did know how to crochet a Treble, which was great and another advantage is that she was really passionate about learning to crochet.!  She had also told me that she had attended  a disastrous "group" class in the past too, so an individual 1 to 1 class was just what she was looking for.

Together we practiced a foundation chain, which incorporated holding the wool correctly to give a good tension and then we went on to making her 1st Granny Square - the MAC way!

She did really well and we even got up to row 3 by the time our class time went by as she was already an expert in crocheting trebles!

It was great to get back into teaching crochet again and I am looking forward to meeting AHA again soon as I have so much  more to teach her e.g. working in rows, colour changes, following a pattern, reading crochet symbols.........!! the list goes on

Random Gone Wrong = GAD 177

I was really trying very hard today, to choose randomly from my yarn stash basket and pull out some new colours for GAD 177 & this is what I came up with......

So the Red is quite random as I haven't got a red in any adjoining squares, however the cream is in the square to the left and the maroon is in the square to the bottom left (you can just see it) and the blue which I thought was a good choice didn't work out either as I used the very same blue in the border that I was joining the square too!

Never mind
It's still a great square and it's still GAD 177

Granny A Day 175 & 176

Granny A Day 175 & 176 were made together today as I ran out of time yesterday as I had such a full on busy day here in the countryside village that I now live in, in Dorset!

There is always SO much to do here on top of the fact that we have taken on a HUGE house to renovate, there is also day to day life, a grumpy dog who is off his food and won't take his tablets and a stubborn husband who moved so many heavy boxes on Thursday that his Sciatica has returned with a vengeance so I am having to give him massages every few hours!

So my respite today was to make this lovely PINK GAD which I am dedicating to the little Pink Princess who lives next door but one - she is lovely, I am her new best mate and she loves PINK!

In contrast GAD is this rather plain cream square which I think looks just great against the many multi coloured squares that I have made recently.

Granny A Day 174

Granny A Day 174 reminds me a little of my Jubilee Granny Squares but in a softer colour scheme

I didn't have time to "parade" my bicycle and it's Daisy Flower Basket around the village today due to the rainy weather

Maybe tomorrow

Granny A Day 173 & Bicycle Daisys

Granny A Day 173 is a Burgundy Square in the main framed in Cream

It's rather pretty in it's own plain way

I also had the time this evening to attach the daisy chain that I made

to my Bicycle Basket and I am really pleased with how it's turned out
Even my husband said it looks very pretty and I have to agree

Granny A Day 172

Oranges & Lemons

No reason it's just the way it turned out!
Granny A Day 172

Granny A Day 171

Granny A Day 171 was a real "delve in the basket" job as you can see from the colours
Green
Orange
Peach &
Yellow

A strange mixture but I rather like the way it's turned out.

Granny A Day 170

Here's a little picture of the main road in my village
I was taking a break from weeding the patio and walking down to the local soft furnishings shop to ask about getting some curtains that we brought with us, altered as they fit the new windows but are actually too large.  There is nothing wrong with them apart from needing alterations so it would be a shame to waste them if we can help it.

Anyway here's a little snippet on a lovely sunny day.

Now did I mention that I was weeding the patio earlier?

Well this GAD #170 depicts the green weeds and the stone of the patio
It's a long hard job and I have to do it in bits as the sun goes around and sometimes abandon the job all together and go and do something else out of the glare of the sun.

I still made time to make my GAD #170 today, despite all the other jobs on my list!!

Day 169 of Granny A Day 2012

Today was a beautifully sunny day with blue skies and white fluffy clouds

Need I say more about GAD 169?
Can you see the sunshine, the blue skies and the white fluffy clouds in that square?
I do hope that you can!

GAD 169 means that I have a square of 13 by 13 Granny Squares and here is my blanket so far

I think it looks amazing

and I love it to bits

Granny A Day 168

Is this rather bright little number....

....on this a dull day today

However there was a little non Crochet drama today!

As I was walking home from my dog walk this morning, I noticed what I thought was a log - a large log or fallen tree trunk in the farmers field next door to where I live.  Then I saw that the twigs were moving and realised that it was a sheep in distress, so I went to the door of the farm and told them.

I saw, from my Crochet  Room window a few moments later, one of the farmers going into the field and turning the sheep upright!

An hour or so later they came to thank me, telling me that the sheep would have died if left on it's back, and gave me a bunch of flowers!

Granny A Day 167

First and foremost, I must apologise in advance for the small blogposts that I have and will be making in the coming days

I am so exhausted from the house move and all the work that goes with it, that I barely have time to Crochet and Blog about it, but as I set up this challenge I am determined to see it through day by day wherever and whenever possible.

So here is GAD 167

We had a lovely day weather wise here in Dorset today
Sunny Skies with blue patches as per the GAD I made today

GAD 154, 155, 156, 157, 158 & 159

Oh my goodness gracious!

Yes, I have made several GAD's to tide me over, not only the weekend but also the days coming up to the big day

MY HOUSE MOVE

So here they are, in true Granny A Day style
Commemorating the days......

Today GAD 154, 2nd June 2012 is the first day of the Jubilee Celebrations
So I made a simple Red, White & Blue Square

Tomorrow GAD 155, 3rd June 2012 is the Queens Special Day
So I tried to replicate the Union Jack

It didn't turn out too bad!!

Monday is 4th June 2012 and another Jubilee Celebration day so I made each Granny Shell in rows 1, 2 & 3 from combinations of Red, White and Blue
Framing them with a Red border

And finally, Tuesday 5th June 2012 is our extra Bank Holiday Jubilee Day
So another Red, White & Blue variation

And here they are, all together, joined into the blanket, so I will remember this time forever more when I look back in years to come at my lovely Granny A Day Blanket....

.....But that's not all!

On Wednesday 6th June 2012, it will be my last day at this home here in Carshalton in Surrey.
Now, I don't know if you know this, but Carshalton is Lavender country, so I thought that a plain Granny Square in Lavender would commemorate this day perfectly.....

....And on Thursday 7th June 2012, I will move to Dorset
HOORAY

This is the Flag of Dorset

And this is the Granny Square that I created today, in between packing boxes, to remember my
moving day

I had to make the square with the White and Yellow first, and sew in the red border of the white cross once the square was finished.

I do hope you like it and forgive me if I don't blog between now and next Thursday.
But I might do!
LOL

Granny A Day 153 and MORE Daisys ......

....but not crocheted by me!

If you pop along to this lovely lady's BLOG
You will see that my blog post on Daisies recently (I myself was inspired by A Stash Addicts blog) inspired her to Crochet some Daisy's of her own - go on, take a look to see what she's one with them!

Now for GAD 153

I like the fact that this GAD is made from only 3 colours - I like the thick frame that the orange is creating
Do you?

I am going to sit down tonight and decide on my Colour Combinations for the Jubilee Weekend

I will make the next 3 GAD's from
Red, White & Blue yarns to commemorate our

Queens Diamond Jubilee

in 2012
