Day 262 - Granny Square Mania !!

I loved taking today's lesson!

We revisited working in the flat round

In preparation

for

making

Granny Squares!

And look how well

They all did!

They were all really chuffed to have made their first squares
There's no stopping them now & I am so proud of them all.

I introduced them to the latest issue of

Issue 45

The beauty of Inside Crochet magazine:

Not only is it written in UK Crochet Terminology, but it grades (beginner, improver, intermediate etc.)each and every one of the many fantastic projects & patterns printed, adorned with fantastically styled & beautifully taken photographs.

Fortunately this month's edition has a Granny Feature

And another pattern that they all loved was this Pom Hat - something that's easily achievable for a beginner to make!

So they are all off to the local newsagents or going online to subscribe to get their copies!

In other news.....

Have you seen this new online crafting mag?

I have 2 new patterns in this edition, amongst another 23 projects that you can make in 1 hour or less!

Day 261 & more news from Crochet eLearning!

"AD" aka Floozy only signed up for my eLearning course a short while ago & look at the photograph that I got sent today!

Isn't that just amazing?

I love the colours & a lot of thought has gone into it.

It's been made with Crochet Love!

SB (remember his work from yesterday?) has now progressed to Treble Crochet

What a great job he is doing - his stitches are so neat & tidy.  He's realised that he's missed a few edge stitches but what important is that he's really practicing and not giving up.
That pleases me a lot.

Remember me telling you about the balls of wool I was sent yesterday?

Well I chose my first one to use on my Twitter Blanket today

I couldn't resist the multi coloured ball with brown, white, orange & red

And it looks FAB in situ

Giggling Crochet Granny's! Day 260

Today's blog post starts with a little extract from my Basic eLearning course

Here, Simon demonstrates a very nice start to his work & really great uniform stitches in each row, which is FANTASTIC as he's only been crocheting for a couple of days.....

.....The beauty of the eLearning course is that you get me as your "virtual" teacher!

If you look at the photo below, I have circled where he's gone a little astray & missed a stitch

That's how a lot of beginners get slopping sides, but either missing the 2nd to last stitch or missing the turning chain (which counts as a stitch) itself.

If you would like to try the eLearning course then click below!

Crochet Class today was a great giggle

3 of my ladies started to work on Granny Squares & there was lots of laughter coming from one particular corner of the table

 Excitement is building

As Granny Squares grew in size

I have two other ladies in the same class that are one step behind & working on making flat rounds
And a jolly good job of it they are doing too!

& they have all expressed an interest to extend their 4 week workshop to more weeks too!!
Crochet Rules!!

Today's square for day 260 is this lovely Blue in Pure Wool.  I know I have used this wool before, but I no longer have to worry about that as +Victoria Stott

kindly sent me all this!

Thanks you so much!

Days 254 to 259....

This blog post starts last week!

Due to the family funeral, this is the first time I have had to catch up.

So Class 2 of 4 & they are already making flat circles

In preparation for learning the Granny Square in their next class - they are doing so well & I am so thrilled with their progress.

Today one of my old students came back for a private lesson as she'd been to Albania, found this crochet shop in a remote village & bought this beautiful edging.

However she bought it a few meter's too short - oh no!

So I had to try to reproduce the patter for her

So that she could make a small amount of it to add on

As you can see from the picture above, I used a heavier wool, just to get the feel of the pattern

Whilst "ML" wrote it down as we went. Phew!

I had 6 squares to catch up on

So here they are

with my blanket on day 256 = 16 x 16 rows

And in today's class with KPK

We made Macrame Crochet Bracelets

Here's one made with string and the other with mercerised cotton DK

One that KPK made

And here's another one she made with 2 strands of DK

We did have fun making them, especially starting them off!!

Hopefully normal blogging will be resumed from now on.

Days 252 & 253 Crochet Class Week 2

Just a very quick blog post for today & yesterday.
My apologies, but with a family funeral looming I am running out of puff & time!!

Today's Crochet Class is the 2nd one of 4

I was thrilled with the homework that they brought along

And with the chatter going around the room

We did progress onto working in the round, from working in rows today so that's GREAT progress & well done to all my pupils today you have made me one very proud Crochet Teacher!

Keep up the good work & if you are reading this PRACTICE!

Square 252

And 253 are here

You will have to wait until sometime over the weekend until the next update as on our return from the Funeral we have friends coming from London for the weekend as it's the Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival so I don't know when I will get the time to blog again.

Until then Crochet Cuddles

Days 249, 250 & 251 - Crochet Cushion covers & Rectangle Crochet Cushion Cover!

I decided to put my feet up in front of the TV

And transform a boring old cushion that I had

With one of my recently purchased 200g balls of wool

In variegated colours

I love the "shades of Autumn" that it oozes

I now have to go and buy some more wool as I have another cushion to "transform"

And I am also up to date...

with my Twitter Blanket Squares

Day 248 - Crochet Class #2

I took the 2nd lot of Beginners workshops that started this week!

Due to the fact that only 4 of the 5 ladies turned up, we did progress a little further that the Tuesday workshop, but that doesn't matter - it's not a competition!

They all got on really well, making foundation chain, double crochet & progressing on to half treble crochet  - working in rows & with straight edges, thanks to the help of Stitch Markers!!

YAY Good Old Stitch Markers - a crocheters best friend.
